Dark City (director's cut)

Postby Seamus » Thu Sep 09, 2010 5:01 pm

Hey gang,

I just finished watching Dark City for the second time. First time was early 2007, so a lot has happened in my development since then. This time I watched the director's cut, and I couldn't tell a whole lot what was different, but often there are nuances in 'director's cut' that are lacking in the theatrical version. So I always watch director's cuts when they are available.

One thing that I noticed was that the 'simulation' aspect of the citizens' reality was played up quite a bit. The main premise of the film is that life (for the citizens of Dark City) is an experiment being conducted by aliens for the ostensible purpose of learning how to be like humans, in that humans have individuality. The necessary drama and struggle ensues, and it follows a typical good vs. evil plot. However, the mechanics of existence for the citizens are quite illustrative, and somewhat reflective of our own existence.

All in all, a fun ride.

i got it via bittorrent. movies like that are hard to find in video shops, especially director's cuts.

We go to Hastings and mill around and we often find gems like this one.
