Text-To-Speech (TTS) software

I just want to say hi, and post off topic material, make suggestions, complain, tell jokes, post goodies etc.

Text-To-Speech (TTS) software

I wanted to share something because it might be helpful.
I use Text-To-Speech software to let it read out loud forum topics to me.
It is a good way to bypass ego filtering when reading silently to myself. When I read out loud it also helps bypassing ego filtering but when reading out loud I tend to focus more on the correct English pronunciation and than on what is actually being said.

software recommendations:

Linux:

I use the software 'KMouth' (GNU General Public License Version 2)

Windows:

Windows XP/Vista/7: you could use the built-in Text-to-Speech tool, that can be accessed via the "Control Panel"
It has a "Preview" function that you could use.

platform-independent:

Firefox:

there are Add-ons for firefox that abilify it to text-to-speech

Reading to yourself and listening give ego the most advantage as it only has one sense to filter.

Reading out loud is still the best way to actively participate in assimilating the material.
