It was for the benefit of the planet. If humanity had been able to begin toying with cosmic energy, we would have been just another Atlantis. We would have gotten in the way of the Earth's own evolution. Our synthetic energies would have probably interfered with growing, strengthening natural patterns of energy much more than what we have today with the cell phone and electric grid. I think that's what's been going on with all this good vs. evil business. we've been distracted long enough to allow the Earth to build up enough energy to make the leap to her next state.
