On 11/11/11, two dogs that were under my care escaped under a full moon and killed two of three alpacas that were in a small pen. Why they didn't kill the third is still a mystery, as said dogs were caught cornering and harassing a group of about 15 alpacas in an adjoining large pasture. My guess is it was a quarantine pen. Why else would you have your prize baby alpaca, 4 months old, in a smaller pen with one old female (13 years old) and one other, when they could have been better protected being with the rest of the herd? Something's not smelling right, and the owner, during the first meeting, dropped his "asking price" for restitution from 60,000 dollars to 20,000. When he read my offer of payment today, that stated I would only be able to pay him about 180 dollars a month, he dropped his price again to 10,000, to try to get a "lump sum". We (the dogs' owners and I) made it clear that we don't have that kind of money, and the meeting ended with him pretty much expressing his intention to talk to a lawyer. If he tries to take me to court, I will regard that as dishonor to my offer of compensation, and he'll get NO THING from me.
What was it that Riddick said to Toombs? "You shoulda taken the money."
This incident has had the beneficial effect of causing me to put my "sovereignty process" to the test. I was cited for each dog, $500 for "failure to prevent acts of nuisance". I discharged the citation via the process I outlined here:

I have now gotten a letter from the D.A. to the effect that he doesn't handle civil matters, so he forwarded my letter to the County Counsel, who does. He addressed me as "Dear Sir", NOT as "Dear Mr. Farley". Muahahahaaaa! That letter was dated long enough ago that I should have heard something back by now, if the County Counsel wants to have a beef with me and my status.
