I warn you, Jeremy Griffith takes HOURS to get to the point, and then only alludes to it. He's still confused in many ways, it appears, but he has found a valuable piece of the puzzle. I haven't seen all the videos yet, because he started getting into evolutionary timelines that I know are wrong. His curves of intelligence vs. happiness are right, but his timescale is skewed to pander to the atheists.
The point he presents, in a nutshell, is this: The Human Condition is what we have today, when our ideals of "peace, love, and togetherness" are not lived out, but instead it is our shadow that is being lived out. When Ø created/caused to be created mankind, we were initially living in an idyllic paradise of tribalism. THIS IS OUR "INSTINCTUAL" or, BASELINE MODE OF BEING. THIS CANNOT BE OVEREMPHASIZED. He says we arrived at that state through genetic learning (by operation of natural selection). [note: Supporting evidence is found for this in that the Bonobo chimpanzees are even now developing a matriarchal, nurturing-based society. They are in the middle of a shift from patriarchal/domineering to matriarchal/nurturing.] I say we were created that way. The problem was, in this state, very little growth occurs, since there are few challenges that cause effort to be put into development of talents and abilities (and especially consciousness) to overcome them. So Ø, in its literally infinite wisdom, caused us to learn agriculture, and thus the age of the Egotist was born. This is the age that is coming to a close even now. So, what happens when these happy beings suddenly develop a little more sense of individual self? They inevitably drift off "course", to consciously explore the realm of being that is NOT in line with the natural, happy realm of being to which he is genetically inclined. Our genetic inclination to kindness, cooperation, and harmony are at odds with our mission of exploring the depths of "evil", and this is the source of many of our guilty thoughts and feelings.
So mankind, over the last 12,000 years (My best guesstimate) has been developing hierarchies and religions and governments, all to satisfy the need of a potentially infinitely conscious being to know all the possibilities in order to choose the preferred. It does not matter that the state that was originally abandoned matches many preferences. While unconsciously living in the idyllic Garden of Eden, man could never become the friends and sons and daughters that Ø wanted. So a plot was hatched, mankind took off into the dark, and we've been exploring dissonant modes of being ever since. This was done with the VERY GOOD reason that we could eventually return to harmony, and choose it consciously, thus becoming greater vessels for Ø than have yet been conceived. Pinocchio is going to get his wish, maybe? Or is it Gepetto's wish?
