What to do with guilt?

Postby Joseph » Tue Jan 18, 2011 2:37 am

what is the proper thing to do with guilt?

What I learned in the last few months is that guilt is essentially worthless. Is that correct? But at the same time I don't suppose to brush it aside. I suppose to go deep and understand it and apply the proper wisdom so that it diffuses on its own.

It is not easy because I think most people are conditioned to feel guilty when we screw up.

Guilt isn't worthless. If you feel guilt you have failed in that situation that's all. Analyse it how you could have solved that situation better so you know how to solve it the next time and that's it. Without this guilt feeling we wouldn't see the errors we made. So it has a worth. It is important for us to advance.

Namaste,.

Yeah, I agree guilt is not worthless. that's why i mentioned going deep and understand it.

However, those in here who know my situation know that I am feeling guilty NOT because I have failed in certain situation. Can you feel guilty even though you have done absolutely nothing wrong? Totally! I suspect that a lot of people are in the same situation. I don't want to bore you with long stories. But this kind of guilt can make one second guess oneself. I have to constantly ask myself if I did the right thing. Maybe I did. Maybe I didn't. It is really annoying.

Guilt is a way we have of beating up on ourselves, trying to beat God to the punch. We inwardly think that if we beat on ourselves enough, then God will go easy on us when it comes time for judgment.

*cough* bullshit! *cough*
